Puerto Viejo is a perfect place to relax in tropical paradise or catch some magnificent surf. With the palm lined golden or black sand beaches with warm waters, Puerto Viejo is a favorite among tourists. South of Cahuita, Puerto Viejo is a happening little town with plenty of restaurants and discos. The pristine beaches of this coastal town are some of the most beautiful in the country. Luckily, development due to tourism has prioritized preserving much of the local forest that surrounds the town. Puerto Viejo is also a great place to start explorations into the Bribri and Cabécar indigenous territories.
