Tortuguero
Tortuguero National Park, extending along the northern coast on the Caribbean shelters a wide range of wildlife, but is most famous for their green sea turtles. Tortuguero is the largest nesting area for the green sea turtle in the western hemisphere. This area has transformed from one of largest hunting grounds to the premier and leading center for turtle monitoring and research. The National Park protects their nesting ground under Costa Rican national law. Here, you can learn about the history of the area at the turtle museum, enjoy a locally guided tour of the nesting grounds or walk around the small, relaxed Caribbean town.
