Central Valley

The Central Valley, considered the “heart of Costa Rica,” is surrounded by spectacular rolling green mountains and is formed by four different provinces of Costa Rica. Although the smallest region, it is the most densely populated as it is the center for economic, social and political activity.
Spend the day learning about the culture of Costa Rica by visiting museums and the National Theatre in downtown San José or go on day trips to the surrounding mountains, volcanoes or local coffee plantations. The mountains provide wonderful trails for mountain biking or hiking with breathtaking views of the valley below. Other activities include white water rafting, trips to butterfly or botanical gardens, or just taking in the unique culture found within each small town. The Central Valley is a great starting point for a magnificent experience through Costa Rica.
